However, a credit union is different from a bank because it is cooperatively owned by its customers, who we call our members. A bank makes profits on its customers to benefit its shareholders, but a credit union’s profits are shared with its members through better rates on loans and deposits, lower fees, improvements in services and technology, and supporting our community.
